In the Fig.9 below it is shown in a simple way,how the pitching of a 3-phase- winding can
be achieved on different ways:
a.) short-pitching of the winding step
b.) by different phase belts and no short pitching of the winding step
c.) by a combination of both (not shown here,but basically feasible)
In addition it is shown that from the electrical point of view a.) and b.) are absolutely equivalent.As the short pitching ratio of the example is equal to the belt spreading ratio ,the winding
factors of both windings must be equal too!
Normally for lap-windings case a.) is preferred,especially for coil-windings.For wave-windings case b.) is preferred because normally the number of bar-connectors is less than for case a.),especially if fractional wave windings are used!
