Some parents may think it would be better to have their children trained for math competition as early as possible since schools have requirements on this area; while other parents insist that children should not be trained as mere "math problems solvers". However, there is no absolutely correct answer to this problem. Cases vary as children are different.
There is no such an age boundary where children are determined to learn mathematical olympaid or not. News about failure in training young children for math can never be rarely heard in China even in the world, but this does not sufficiently support the assertion saying mathemaical training has merely negative impact on children. Terence Tao(陶哲轩） can be an exception, who won the gold medal in IMO when he was 13 and was awarded with Fields Medal for his achiements on math when he was 31. Hence, deciding to train children for mathematical olympaid according to age does not make any sense.
