For most of readers the flat characters always serve as a foil to round characters,no complex interior monologue and character development,and most of flat characters should not be respected as round characters.Flat characters are simple and always showing us their own personalities straightly,whether it is good or bad.They are distributed in every novel.The Kite Runner has several flat characters either.One of them is Rahim Khan.He took pleasure in figuring other people’s talent and encourages them.Fair and no racial discrimination are kind hearted Rahim Khan’s idealities.Furthermore,he was a good teacher in life,taught how to be on the right of life.Also correct “student’s” mistake in life.Rahim Khan’s actions are not only helping character development,he also showed readers the right path of life and personalities that a good person need to have.
One of Rahim Khan’s personalities is he was willing to help poor people,notice their advantages and inspires people to utilize their “God-given talent“(Page 42).This personality caused Rahim Khan to read Amir’s first story when Baba did not want to read it (Page 40,41); then he figured Amir’s talent and write a letter to Amir to encourage him keep writing (Page 42); and listen to Hassan about his raped (Page 385) ,and maybe consoled Hassan.Rahim Khan’s encouraging decided Amir’s future job and it is a right decision.However,did Rahim Khan know that Amir was great at literacy in the first place?Of course not,he was just wanted to help a poor child and give him some of confidence.Rahim Khan was pleasure to helping people,no matter who needs his help.
Rahim Khan tried to help everyone around him; even that person might be Hazara.The reason for Rahim Khan was different from other Pashtuns is because he treated Hazaras as same as Pashtuns.From his point,everyone is equaled,whether which race that person is belong to.That is how he could talk about his romance with a Hazara woman to Amir,in Amir’s birthday party (Page 126-128).Also he went to find Hassan and lived with Hassan and his family (Page 259-261).Compare to Amir’s attitude to Hassan in the first place,Rahim Khan was a hundred percent antiracism.For him,skin color and race cannot cut off love between people,and all the people are pure from their deep soul.Although people may made some mistakes in their lives.

For most of readers flat characters always serve as a foil to round characters with no complex monologue or character development,and thus should not be regarded as round characters.Flat characters are simple and always show their personalities straight away,whether good or bad.They are present in every novel.The Kite Runner has several flat characters as well.One of them is Rahim Khan.He took pleasure in figuring out other people’s talent and encourages them.To be fair and treat others with no discrimination based on their race are kind hearted Rahim Khan’s idealities.He was also a good teacher in life and taught his students how to be live life in the right way,correcting “student’s” mistake in life.Rahim Khan’s actions not only help with character development,but also demonstrated to readers the right method to live and the values a virtuous person should behold.
